Fernanda Marques a Brazil based architect studio designed this luxury sustainable winter loft for the Casa Cor 2010 exhibit.  Described as: “A house that expands your horizons, that doesn’t confine, that is virtually and concretely open to the world, nature and its inhabitants.”

Fernanda Marques´s project for the Casa Cor 2010 exhibit was inspired by sustainability issues. All of the coverings, both internally and externally, were executed in recycled wood, as well as all the furniture, which carry the green seal representing the company’s commitment to the environment.
The lighting they adopted was the highly-efficient LED system, to lower energy consumption. Emblematically, the tree trunks originally from Bahia became the buildings supporting pillars.
From a conceptual point of view the eco-friendly loft was designed to meet the needs of a hectic family’s everyday life. The open plan single space of  207m², contains a living-room, gourmet kitchen, bar and a video hall.

Antoni Associates designed the interior of this home in Cape Town, South Africa. Located on the slopes of Signal Hill in Cape Town, this property overlooks the Atlantic Seaboard and historic Robben Island. ANTONI ASSOCIATES was commissioned to re-furbish a SAOTA designed house to a new luxurious standard. The clients’ brief was to create a cutting edge 21st Century residence that incorporated the use of luxurious and tailored finishes. The clients required an additional two children’s bedrooms, gym, and home cinema. Consideration had to be given to the pool terrace to allow for entertainment as well as to capture the breath-taking city views.
The furniture selection and decor is a combination of bespoke pieces and imported branded furniture. Adjacent to the open plan living and dining room is the bar containing a custom-designed humidor for an extensive cigar collection. The kitchen is finished in high gloss white lacquered units with Volakas marble counter tops.

The outdoor entertainment area has been designed to facilitate a multitude of entertainment functions and includes a gazebo pavilion, outdoor dining and grill area as well as relaxation for sunseekers. The pool gazebo has been constructed mainly of Iroko timber and has a raised deck with concealed strip lighting. In contrast to the white Volakas floor, black Nero Maraquino marble has been used to clad a cantilevered fireplace shelf which extends over the pool edge. Sumptuous upholstery adds to the sexy comfort of this outdoor room. The infinity pool allows the eye to flow to the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

Lélegzetelállító panorámával rendelkező Luxus villát tervezett a már több blogbejegyzésben is bemutatott Antoni Associates , Dél Afrikába Cape Town-ba. A fotókon is jól látszik hogy a legnagyobb hangsúlyt az integrált medencével is rendelkező terasz kapta amely szinte egybe olvad a nappalival és szerves részévé válik a belső enteriőrnek. A 21. század minden követelményének megfelelő igazán testreszabott villa , 2 gyerekszobával egy fő hálóval kondicionáló teremmel , moziszobával és egy igazán komoly nappali étkező konyha kapcsolattal rendelkezik. A ház egyik legnagyobb erénye a különböző textúrák és struktúrák nagyvonalú társítása , ill. a mobiliák gondos kiválasztásával igazán otthonos és modern belső enteriőrt kapott.

The house is located on the outskirts of Nakano City in northeastern Nagano Prefecture, in an area with abundant nature and a view of Kitashiga Kogen’s Mt.Kosha to the east. Apple orchards and a cluster of houses that line the old road surrounded the site, while the elevated tracks of the Hokuriku Shinkansen scheduled to begin service in a couple of years, run north-south through nearby fields. The client - a couple in their 30s with one child - wanted a plan that made allowances for the adjacent main house and was aggressive in incorporating the view of Mt.Kosha.

The building is set on the site’s southeast side, forming with the main house an L-shape around the existing garden. It was possible to open up the entire east side of the building, the one with the view, because it faces apple orchards with plenty of distance to the nearest neighbor. The house is defined by two structural elements from which derive the various relationships between the view and its spaces. The first is its stepped terrace-the exterior circulation space that rises through the building from ground floor to rooftop. The second is the interior circulation space that surrounds it- a covered passageway winding from the first floor up through the mezzanine to the second. The three-dimensional interaction of these elements at various levels gives the space a pleasant sense of distance.

Views of the outside are controlled by placing a mezzanine level 1.2 meters below the living and dining area on the opposite side of the stepped terrace. From the living and dining area Mt.Kosha can be seen in the distance across the terrace above the mezzanine, whose windows frame foreground views of
the apple orchards. The gap between floor slab and stepped terrace prescribes each of the spaces, generating landscape views through the unexpected relationship between them. The insertion of exterior circulation space ( the stepped deck ) into the building generates sequential changes to the views from it. By establishing diverse lines of flow within the house , the plan attempts to suggest a new relationship between space and scenery.

This striking residence is located in Costa d’en Blanes, Mallorca, Spain and it’s a very impressive structure. The house was a project developed by SCT Estudio de Arquitectura. It’s definitely a very modern creation and some might even call it contemporary. On a long, narrow plot of land with a more or less pronounced slope, we were commissioned by the owners to demolish the house they lived in and build a new one.The first decision consists of inverting the situation level of the day and night areas, positioning the night zone on the ground floor and the day zone on the upper floor, where the views are better and there is more privacy with regard to the adjoining plots and allowing for use of the pool and solarium on the level where the daytime activity is generated.

Our aim was to make the volumetry of the building simple, clear and emphatic. In this regard, the side façades and the section have been treated like a ribbon that fold, forming the lateral panels and slabs that contain the programme on each floor. The ribbon that folds and shapes the slabs and walls is in a heavy material – concrete – and the lateral enclosures are made of a light, fragile material, i.e. glass. Only a patio open to one side cuts through the ribbon.
Conceptually, the floors have been modulated with a 1×1 m. section, and this modulation is reflected in the composition of the façades, patterns of concrete slabs, carpentry and distribution designs.

Lake Lugano House is a lovely looking villa designed by Italian architecture firm JM Architecture. This residence displays a highly original architecture in the shape of an oval glass pavilion. Even though it is not obvious when looking at the photos, the crib is structured on two levels. The upper floor hosts the living room, dining room, kitchen, and storage areas, while the ground level accommodates the bedrooms, bathrooms, and garage. With unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains and lake, this minimalist home is an oasis of relaxation and tranquility. Moreover, the architects envisioned a sustainable home, as the Lake Lugano residence was built using eco-friendly materials, geothermal energy and low-emittance glass insulation. Are you pleasantly surprised by the overall design of this home, or do you find it too privacy-invading?

This unusual but beautiful home is located in Wroclaw, Poland. It was a project by Przemek Kaczkowski & Ola Targonska with the help of structural engineer Slawomir Pruchnik. The house covers a surface of 253 square meters and the construction was completed in 2011. As the name in the title suggests, this is a house that has absolutely no stairs. This was a request from the clients, a middle-aged couple that wanted a house that would be both practical and enjoyable. The request was unusual but understandable and the site was quite friendly regarding this aspect. It was basically a flat piece of land in a suburban part of the city of Wrocław, surrounded by a bunch of houses with mixed styles and materials. The house was placed along the northern border of the plot and this way it shelters the remaining garden from unwanted views and the nearby road.

Lieven Musschoot has designed the Pure C bar in Cadzand-Bad, The Netherlands.Design a restaurant for everyone, a  relaxed atmosphere in which the family is central and parts priority is. It’s a casual bistro atmosphere with lots of light, white interior and nature elements. The whole interior is tailored to the sweeping views from the impressive scenery around the north sea with the dunes. Formerly was the hotel restaurant which dated from the years 1970. In total, Pure C has a capacity of 180 persons. The space divided into different zones with a flexible organization that allows many different scenarios. Guests have the choice between long tables in black wood trunk for large groups or small tables for two that can be discreetly screened with airy white curtains. Who particularly interested in the surrounding scenery can chose a small table by the window. The most notable highlights are the large oval sitting island which is manufactured from mdf and lacquered in white. The cocoon effect is accentuated by an elegant white curtains round the perimeter of the cupolas. At night the skylights have a golden shine from the gold-covered with circular discs of light fixtures. It is consistent with material color and mood contrast played. This gave the most open part of the restaurant, on the sea-side a light grey epoxy floor, compared with this, the middle zone, areas with lounge chairs are in white oak parquet. The black glass walls define spaces away without losing contact. The bar area was unlike the other areas not white but a black stretch acoustic ceiling. The furniture is all white with shiny brown tones combined. Brown wood tones are complemented by the vintage cognac-colored leather seat covers, front desk and bar. Other atmosphere are the gas fireplace with floating glass, the dark slate of the pilasters, vase objects (atelier vierkant) and lounge furniture from Piet Boon and Max alto.

This residence is primarily used when the clients’ extended family comes from England for long visits. They come to relax and to reconnect with their family and with nature, away from city crowds and traffic, at a retreat they neither want nor need to leave for a month.
The design objective was to make every day of that month unique by providing a range of destinations within the site with diverse scales, functions, and views: from gathering in the expansive living room overlooking the fields of the former peach orchard to reading alone on a shaded bench between the library and the edge of the forest. Multiple paths and hallways connect each destination, further increasing variety. Finally, each detail and custom furnishing is designed to make mundane rituals into thoughtful events.
The clients wanted this to be a gathering place for their family, full of memories for generations to come. Thus the materials were chosen not only for durability but also for their gradual changes over many years. The copper siding and roofing will slowly turn green as the weathering limestone becomes darker.

Portuguese studio Bernardo Rodrigues Arquitecto has completed 'house on the flight of birds', a single family home on st. Michael Island in the Azores, Portugal. informed by the landscape and the prevalent high winds and rain,  the design looks to establish a strategy that allows the family to remain connected and exposed to the outdoors regardless of the conditions. A series of stacked and intersecting volumes are linked by a dominant contoured form, which appears to cut directly through the home. developing a collection of variously sized sheltered terraces and an undulating  roof top patio, the contrasting expression along with a dominant red wall, both defines the overall aesthetic and the organization of space.

MLK Studio designed the interior for the Brentwood residence and guesthouse in collaboration with Belzberg Architects who designed the home in Los Angeles, California.

The commission was to create a complete interior design scheme for a 10,000 square foot modern main residence as well as a 2,000 square foot guesthouse. In addition to the interiors, Meg Joannides of MLK Studio was hired to design all 10 bathrooms as well as the main kitchen and guesthouse kitchen, in collaboration with Boffi. Much of the furniture was custom designed by MLK Studio and fabricated at the firm’s trusted local Los Angeles workshops. Briefed thoroughly by the client, MLK Studio worked with a neutral palette throughout the house, skillfully mixing textures to create the depth and layers that are apparent in the sophisticated design.

All materials that were specified by MLK Studio were thoughtfully selected to harmonize with the architect’s vision for the building. Walnut hardwood flooring throughout, as well as bluestone counter tops coordinate with the architect’s stacked bluestone walls. The kitchen’s palette of calacatta marble and high gloss cabinetry, as well as the master bathroom’s Turkish limestone walls and flooring underscore the client’s desire for a neutral palette.

MLK Studio became involved in the design development stage, collaborating with the architect, Hagy Belzberg of Belzberg Architects. Lasting approximately 3 years, MLK Studio’s involvement in the Brentwood project also included attendance at weekly site meetings during construction, as well as meetings with all consultants such as the architect, landscape architect, and lighting design firm.

Of all the surprising A-cero home designs we’ve seen, this is probably the most elegant. Envisioned as a giant work of art, this residence belongs to Spanish architect Joaquin Torres and has a breathtaking appearance. The project is located in La Finca, a residential area near Madrid, Spain and consists of winding, overlapping volumes of concrete having various heights, with water playing a key role: “The land is surrounded by lakes and I wanted the house to be natural extension of them“, stated architect Joachin Torres. The interiors are bright, with a structured distribution on three levels. The entrance brings together the common areas, which lead to a large hall. At this level there is also the master bedroom with dressing room, bathroom, gym and indoor pool. The other rooms are located in the basement, and the third floor is occupied by a living room with study corner leading to a gallery-library. All the rooms are decorated with items designed by A-cero, alternating with classic designs, antiques and works of art. Enjoy the photos!

From all the perspectives the indoor is a bright open space. All the rooms are organized to utilize a proper space according to the sun cycle. The designer has placed the rest rooms in the East and living and activities rooms in the West and South. The main bedroom has a large dressing-room and an attached bathroom. The day light flushes in side by the curtains and gives a natural sensation to the lounge. Strips of glazing wrap the walls and roof of a timber waterside summerhouse in Aure, Norway.Designed by architects TYIN tegnestue, the building is made of materials that were salvaged from a dilapidated boathouse on the site, plus new grey-patinated pine.
Here’s a description of the project from the architects:
TYIN tegnestue Architects
Traditional Norwegian boat houses have been used to store boats and fishing gear, but now many of them are being converted for recreational summer use.
At this site, the existing boat house was in bad shape and had to be torn down, but its simple shape, sensible placement and honest use of materials inspired the new building.A lot of the materials were reused, either as shuttering for the concrete walls and footings or as internal panelling.Windows from the client’s farmhouse were also reused. The exterior cladding is Norwegian pine impregnated with a by-product from the sugar cane industry, which will give grey patina. The shutters on the long side swing open with the help of simple steel fittings. A flexible process, which allowed on-site design reactions, has been essential to the result.

Modern entertainment seems to push the limits of design further than imagined. With this gazebo for a TV show, the creative minds from Za Bor Architects managed to overcome the traditional architectural boundaries in this field. Russian architects Arseniy Borisenko and Peter Zaytsev of Za Bor Architects designed and constructed this gazebo used in a television show called Dachniy Otvet, meaning The Village Talks, where designers and architects are invited to surprise volunteer clients with renovations. The outdoor kitchen was built for a yacht captain who lives near Moscow, in a suburban area. Made from a collection of 14 planes, each formed of larch white-tinted wood planks glued together, the gazebo has a nautical shape, inspired by the owner’s career choice. A black brick barbeque topped off with a black steel chimney is prepared for BBQs, while a modern white dining table seating 8-10 people welcomes guests. This project is sure to change the visual impact of the Russian village chosen for this experiment.

David Jameson Architect designed the Jigsaw Residence in Bethesda, Maryland.

Description from the architect:
Recycling a single story suburban house located on a busy corner site, Jigsaw introverts itself in a continous spatial flow around an open air courtyard carved from the home’s remains. Fundamental to the conception of the house is the notion of reflectivity, rendering unclear the boundaries between inside and outsite. Light and space are modulated by meshing ribbons of wall and glass that form a tessellation of solid and void. The conditioning of these internal and external walls is identical. Planes of stucco exterior walls transform into plaster interior walls while passing through glass. Clerestory glazing and window constructs are carefully sited to afford privacy to the occupants while framing and extending views through the site.

Rough grey slate and red-stained wood panels infill a zig-zagging stone frame on the exterior of a house in Venlo, the Netherlands.Designed by Dutch architects Loxodrome, the house has four staggered storeys that align with the sloping landscape.Angled recesses in the facade createsheltered balconies outside the upper-ground-floor living room and the first-floor master bedroom. Two smaller bedrooms are also located on the first floor, while kitchen and dining rooms are at ground level and a garage slots into the basement. On the top floor of the house is a television room, which leads out to a roof terrace and hot tub. We’ve published lots of interesting Dutch houses on Dezeen in recent months, including a townhouse covered in tacked-on fabric and a family home with three faceted skylights

To create textures and cousiness used hardwood and marble floors as well as marble stone details on several interior walls and chimney. On the facades used marble stones and wood looking aluminum screens, all integrated by clean geometries and shapes. On the first floor we located all public spaces such as vestibule, double height living & dining room, library, kitchen, family room and a wood workshop. On the second floor we have a second more private family room, 3 bedrooms (each one with their own walking closet and bathroom) and laundry. Finally on the 3rd floor we have a service room. The Beached House, BKK Architect’s latest residential project, sits on the Victorian coastline of Australia. The residences’ name couldn’t be more fitting, as the architecture appears as if it was washed up on the shore and naturally nestled into the sand dunes. BKK is one of Australia’s most sought-after architectural teams specializing in residential, commercial, and urban design.

The Melbourne based firm was founded in 2000 by Tim Black, Julian Kosloff & Simon Knott who joined forces with the common understanding of creating architecture that is “energetic, multi-faceted, open minded, cultivating a desire for intellectual change and problem solving.”The Beached House is just that! The home is a getaway house for BKK’s clients, the ideal locale for embracing serenity beyond the hectic city. BKK created design components that allow for serenity away from the hustle and bustle. “Entering this home begins with the decision to leave the city. The recurring ritual that plays out in the journey to the holiday home is integral to the conception of this house: the car and its contained interior; the stop off for provisions in the last town before arrival; getting out and unchaining the entry gate before driving onto the site; the wall that confronts them, the view denied; the welcoming gesture of the front portal wedge; and the final release to the view as one enters the main living spaces.”

The home takes shape like no home you would see in the vertical constructs of a city. The design is built as though it unfolded from a three dimensional object. The architectural folds drop from the roof to the ground, fitting perfectly snug to the earth. BKK describes the unfolding as “volumetric origami; folding of spaces over and upon each other. In this way the house resembles a small village or informal site occupation that has aggregated over time. There are a number of these folded spatial sequences within the house that allow for playful discovery and encounter as well as opportunities for varying connections between spaces.”Though the placement of the unfolding architectural elements appears to be organic, there was a methodical process that went into their placement based on the local winds, prevailing weather, and time. While the Beached House was under construction, the builders would have break times together in the most sheltered spot they could find. BKK used these casual encounters between the builders and the site to confirm the climate analysis they had done which determined the most appropriate spaces for outdoor recreation.

WRAP HOUSE’ was including the three elements sunlight, spacious sense and privacy to enrich the living space. The minimalist house was situated in a flat residential quarter in the Southwest of Hiroshima City.As the site was from all sides surrounded by houses, one of which was directly limiting the site boundary, it was important to come up with the following architectural arrangement. To create a bright and wide space while protecting one’s privacy despite the site’s restrictions, a wall enclosed around the full site creating a ‘void’ on the north side while respecting the permitted floor area ratio. A terrace, which was located adjacent to the parking space extended the north orientated living space while facing the street to the north. In addition, considering the natural sunlight conditions for the neighboring house to the west, a pitched roof was selected. The ‘void’ on the east side was surrounded by a v-shaped wall. As a result, sunlight shines into the void in the morning and a ‘sunlight well’ was established. A white wall reflected the collected sunlight and brightened the room gently. In the early morning, sunlight came in the void from the east. As the sun rises further it shined through the upper window, and when the sun started to decline light falls through the skylights. Thus, as the way the light came in constantly changes from sunrise to sunset, the space moved with the flow of time. When the night came, the diagonally cut wall emerged while the scenery around it disappeared. A space different to the daytime appeared.

Tokyo-based studio Fuse-Atelier has completed the House in Abiko project, a three-story contemporary house in Abiko, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
The brief from the owners, a married couple in their 30s, was for a concrete, gallery-like space where they could showcase their collection of design furniture.
The 861 square-foot residence features an impressive multifaceted interior: “the reflection and refraction of natural light onto the slanted surfaces produce a sequence of places which make the interior feel divided, but at the same time connected”, Fuse explains.

Remodelling project of a 1960s villa, located in a residential complex along the historic consular roman road which neighbours with the Veio natural park, at the north end of the italian capital. The villa, organized on three levels, has been redesigned in order to accommodate very different functions on every level. The basement level has been dedicated to play and relax areas. This floor is hosting a large spa entirely cladded in teak wood, with a 6 x 2.5 meter counter current lap pool with hydro jets on the other end. On the other side of a clear glass wall there’s a play room. Both areas are read a a large single space due to the glass transparent wall. A sunken patio is bringing natural light to this level and it creates a private outdoor area protected from any sight of the neighbouring villas. The ground level, which is hosting all the daytime functions, is organized on two separated zones, on the left and right side of the entrance catwalk. On the left side are located the kitchen, family room and dining area, while on the right side are located the study room and the living area. The distribution of each room is planned in order to be able to reach every area from the foyer, without crossing any other space.
